Korea and Kenya have established very close and friendly relations since 1964 and 2014 will
mark the jubilee anniversary of these relations. Bilateral relations between our two countries
have grown to a wider spectrum of cooperation areas.
Korean Airlines launch of direct flights connecting Seoul and Nairobi was a big momentum to
our bilateral relations. Kenya, the East African hub, is drawing closer to Korea.
Subsequent visits of Prime Ministers from both countries further strengthened this momentum.
21st century is called Africa’s century. Africa can enjoy the “African Renaissance" with good
partners. Korea which is no longer Kenya’s distant neighbor will be delighted to contribute to
Kenya’s Vision 2030 in the spirit of “Twende Pamoja”.
In September 2013, Korean Studies Department was opened at the University of Nairobi, one
of the most prestigious universities in East Africa. Korean studies will be a conduit to linking
Kenya and Korea.
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea is also accredited to Somalia, Comoros and
